My name is Ms. Higdon and I am a fourth grade teacher at Spencer County Elementary. This is my first year of having my own classroom. It is a great honor to be apart of this adventure. I have been a substitute teacher in Spencer County and have been an instructional assistant in the special education and kindergarten classroom. I always look forward to working with students to see them learn and grow, as if they were sponges.
I went to Western Kentucky University. I received my Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education. I am currently getting my Master’s Degree in Learning Behavior Disorders (LBD) online through Western Kentucky University. My goal is to be a guide and a mentor for students to learn best. I believe in encouraging and challenging students to recognize leadership qualities and reaching his or her full potential as a learner.
I was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. I have no siblings, but I do have a dog. His name is Max. I enjoyed going to Iroquois Park and participating in imaginative play when I was little. I embrace the the use and acknowledgment of student creativity in the classroom. It’s amazing how we can express ourselves in many ways.
In January 2018, I got engaged to my fiancé, Mr. Jon. He proposed in front of the state capitol in Frankfort, Kentucky. He is in the Air National Guard and works on C-130 airplanes. Mr. Jon and I are going to get married this summer at the Parklands. We are super excited!
As a teacher, I believe all individual students can contribute diverse qualities to form a unique classroom. This classroom could therefore be seen as a “Community of Learners.” Each contributing to the learning process in the classroom and beyond.
